TECHNOLOGY SOURCES & TRANSFER MECHANISM

TATC Technology Acquisition

Most of the TATC Technologies were acquired during the Timoney Programme, which comprised five (5) Phases:

Phase One (1978 – 1981):

  • Industrial training in automobile
    engineering technologies.

  • Construction and equipping the
    TATC Factory.

  • Building of a few Nyumbu Vehicle
    Prototypes in Ireland.

  • Purchase of Nyumbu Vehicle
    components for assembling in
    Tanzania.

Phases Two & Three ( 1980 – 1982):

  • Industrial training in gear design and and manufacturing technologies ( limited to spur, helical and straight bevel gears).

  • Purchase and installation of gear
    cutting machines at the TATC
    Factory.

Phase Four:

  • Industrial training in engine  design and manufacturing technologies.

  • Training in Foundry technologies

  • Construction and equipping the TATC Foundry.

Phase Five:

  • Industrial training in Strategic Engineering Technologies (Armoured Fighting Vehicles and Fire Fighting Vehicles).

Sources of  TATC Technologies

TATC Technologies  in the form of Automotive  parts and components, Foundry materials & consumables, steels, cutting tools gears and plastic rubber products, workshop machinery and equipments etc , are sourced worldwide from countries including China, India, United Kingdom, Brazil, Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands, South Africa, Sweden and United Arab Emirates.

Transfer of TATC Technologies for Commercialisation

Most of TATC developed products can be produced locally using conventional metal casting, cutting and forming  technologies. TATC has “technology package proposals” which can be offloaded to any interested entrepreneurs for commercialisation. The developed technologies have so far benefited several/regions in Tanzania.
